An informal meeting of the party´s office bearers´ and CWC members held at the residence of the party president Sushil Koirala Saturday morning took a decision to this effect. [break]
The decision comes in the wake of party´s former lawmakers demanding revival of the CA and complaints from various quarters within the party that NC´s policy to hold talks and carry out protest activities simultaneously had failed to yield any result.
According to NC Vice President Ram Chandra Paudel, the informal meeting has entrusted the party´s president to bring a proposal on various concurrent political issues for discussions in the CWC meeting. “The CWC meeting will take decisions on all issues including the revival of Constituent Assembly,” he said. The date for the CWC meeting has not been fixed yet.
President Koirala had assured the former lawmakers who had submitted a memorandum to him earlier demanding revival of the CA that their proposal would be deliberated upon at the party´s CWC meeting.
But the proposal to reinstate CA, according to party insiders, has failed to impress majority CWC members.
NC CWC member Minendra Rijal said that the informal meeting discussed as to what type of policy the party should formulate to address current political situation in the country. He said all the issues, including the formation of new government, protest against the caretaker government and revival of the CA as demanded by party´s former lawmakers, surfaced during the meeting in which around two dozen party leaders participated.
The meeting also discussed the upcoming gathering of the party´s district presidents. The gathering, scheduled for July end, will take place in Sindhupalchowk. “Some leaders argued that the gathering of district presidents would be more productive if it is held after the CWC meeting comes up with new strategies,” said Dr Rijal.
The leaders present in the meeting said Koirala will speak to district presidents to know if they want the gathering reschedules. The gathering of district presidents is expected to review party´s overall policies and forge new strategies in view of the ethnic and regional politics holding sway recently.
