KATHMANDU, Jan 26: The Nepali Congress (NC) is commemorating its 78th establishment day today. NC observes this day annually, recognizing the date of the inaugural session of the Nepali Congress in Kolkata, India, which took place on January 25, 1947.

On the initiative of BP Koirala, the first gathering of youth was held in Bhawanipur, Kolkata on January 25, 1947. That gathering established the Nepali National Congress. According to the proposal of Ganeshman Singh, the meeting elected Tanka Prasad Acharya as the president and BP Koirala as the acting president.
