KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The main opposition party, Nepali Congress (NC) has called an all-party meeting to forge a common strategy to fight back the 'unconstitutional' move of Prime Minister K P Oli to dissolve the parliament.
The meeting is scheduled to be held at the NC's Headquarters in Sanepa at 4 pm today. NC leaders said Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has also been invited to attend the meeting.
This comes a day after a joint meeting of NC, Janata Samajbadi party and rival faction within the NCP decided to challenge the move of Prime Minister Oli on political and legal grounds. They have already started taking to the streets against the government's controversial move.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari has already dissolved the House of Representatives and set new dates for the mid-term general election in May at the recommendation of Prime Minister K P Oli. New dates for the mid-term election have been announced for April 30 for the first phase and May 10 for the second phase of the election.
All opposition parties have decided to challenge the decision of the government. A writ petition has also been filed at the Supreme Court, raising questions about its constitutional grounds.
