NBA reiterates on Regmi's resignation as CJ

BAGLUNG, June 1: A meeting of National Executive Council of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) held here in the district reiterated its earlier demand that  Interim Government Council Khilraj Regmi must resign from the post of Chief Justice (CJ), on Saturday.



Endorsing a proposal of Regmi’s resignation as CJ, the council has concluded that  head of the government Regmi’s presence in the post would violate the basic structure of the constitution.[break]



Speaking to journalists at press conference organized to make public the decision of the meeting, NBA chairman Hari Krishna Karki stated that Regmi has no alternative than to quit from the post of CJ.



Meanwhile, the meeting has also demanded to declare the poll date of the second Constituent Assembly election at the earliest.



According to Sunil Pokhrel, NBA general secretary, the meeting has urged the government to take political initiatives for the election.



“We have urged the government to declare the poll date at the earliest after creating conducive environment for the poll,” Pokhrel said.



The meeting has also pressed the judicial council to appoint the permanent justices in the apex court. The meeting further urged to guarantee the access of press and media in all level of courts including the SC.
