CHITWAN, Sept 27: Doctors involved in the treatment of Basanti Pariyar, who was critically injured in an acid attack on Monday, said that her condition is improving. After being thrown acid, she was also stabbed ruthlessly by her neighbor while she was returning home from a fair market in Nawalparasi.

Information Officer at Bharatpur Hospital, Gopal Poudel, informed Republica that Pariyar was removed from the ventilator on Tuesday evening. She regained her consciousness on Wednesday morning.

"She can now recognize her family members and relatives," he said, adding, "Her condition has improved a lot from yesterday." Poudel also informed that the victim is not suffering from internal bleeding anymore.

As per the medical report, the amount of hemoglobin in her body is fine but she lacks enough platelets. She is currently undergoing treatment at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.

She has sustained serious injuries in her stomach, chest, hands, cheeks and head.

According to the doctors, 25 percent of her body was severely burnt by the acid.

Bimal BK, who poured acid on Pariyar and stabbed her with knife, is currently in detention. The family members of the victim have filed a complaint at the District Police Office (DPO), Nawalparasi demanding stern action against the culprit.

He had surrendered himself to the police after the incident. As per the preliminary investigation, BK had bought acid during Teej festival, informed Inspector Ramesh Thapa of the DPO.

"It has been learnt that the victim and the perpetrator had an illicit affair since a long time. However, BK attacked her with acid after she refused to continue their relationship," said Thapa.
