KATHMANDU, April 19: The government is conducting a national vitamin 'A' campaign for children from today. Dr Bivek Kumar Lal, Director of the Family Welfare Division of the Department of Health Services, informed Republica that the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) is going to conduct a national vitamin ‘A’ campaign to provide vitamin ‘A’ and deworming medicine to children across the country today and tomorrow. He asked the parents to give vitamin 'A' and deworming medicine to the children through the nearby women community health volunteers.
Vitamin 'A' capsules will be given to children aged 6 months to 59 months and deworming medicine to children aged 1 to 5 years. The department has issued a circular to the state and local levels to make the national campaign program a success.
The importance of the sunshine vitamin
Director Lal said that Vitamin ‘A’ will be given to about 2.7 million children and deworming medicine will be given to about 2.4 million children. To reduce the risk of health complications and malnutrition in children, the government has started giving vitamin 'A' capsules from 2050 and leprosy medicine from 2056. The government has been giving free vitamin ‘A’ and deworming medicine to the children twice in April and October.
