National school taekwondo kicks off

KATHMANDU, June 21: Laxman Lama and Surendra Kunwar of Gaurishankar Higher Secondary School, Central Region claimed gold medals in the First National School Taekwondo that kicked off on Friday at the semi-covered hall of Dasharath Stadium, Kathmandu.[break]



In the boy´s 45 kg final, Lama edged past Nirajan Khadka of Pushpalal Memorial School of the same region while Kunwar defeated Santosh Ale Magar of Siddha Jyoti Primary School, Western Region in the final of boys´ 48 kg category.



In the girl´s section, Sabina Regmi (44 kg) of Ramnagar Academy, Western Region; Sangita Pulami (42 kg) of Netradaya High School, Central Region, and Asmita Thapa (38 kg) of Gyan Jyoti High School, Mid-western Region secured semifinal spots winning their respective bouts.

Altogether 78 players are competing for 13 gold medals in the two-day event that features a total of six teams -- one team each from five development regions and a team of National School Taekwondo Federation.
