National judo from Thursday

KATHMANDU: Nepal Judo Association (NJA) is organizing the 12th National Judo Championship from Thursday at the Multipurpose Martial Arts Center, Nayabazar.



Organizing a press conference in the capital on Tuesday, NJA President Deepak Harsha Bajracharya said that the event will feature 151 judokas -- 89 male and 62 female -- from 17 different districts and three departmental teams -- Nepal Police Club, Nepal Army Club and Nepal APF Club. [break]



The judokas will compete for 16 gold medals during the three-day event. The fourth general assembly of the association will also be held during the championship.



Innovative defends title



KATHMANDU (REPUBLICA): Innovated defended the senior boys´ title of the Valley View Inter-school Basketball Tournament on Tuesday defeating Pushpa Sadan in the final played at the host´s court in Mid Baneshwar.



 Innovative edged past Pushpa 66-58 riding on 24 points of Ajay Kunwar. Most-valuable-player Nischal Maharjan of Pushpa Sadan netted 20 points. Innovative bagged a purse of Rs 10,000 and runner-up Pushpa Sadan received Rs 5,000 along with trophies, medals and certificates.
