Continuous rains since Saturday triggered floods in Mawa Khola of Morang and Ratu Khola of Mohattari. [break]
Normal life has been affected after flood in Mawa Khola entered human settlements, said locals of Durga Tole. All roads have been waterlogged.
A local, Bimala Sharma, said the inundation robbed many people of their sleep throughout the night yesterday.
The swollen Mawa has also put arable land at Ward No 6, 7 and 8 of Rajghat VDC at high risk. People at Rajghat are a terrified lot due to the flood, said a local, Sital Subba.
In Jaleshwor, the swollen Ratu River entered human settlements at Bhitthamd of Jaleshwor Municipality-12.
Local residents have been forced to live in high lying places without food as floodwaters have inundated houses up to two feet.
Bhitthamod Police Post, Customs Office, Armed Police Force Office, Quarantine Office, Livestock Office and some other government offices have been submerged, affecting activities of these offices.
Ward No 1, 2, 3, 6 and 13 of the municipality have been waterlogged, said former ward chairman Muhammad Alam Ansari. “Normal life has been badly affected.”
Meanwhile, Chief District Officer Ram Krishna Subedi called an emergency meeting of District Natural Disaster Relief Committee and directed officials to speed up relief operation.
Five houses swept away
A landslide swept away five houses at Sildure VDC-4 in Kaski Sunday night. No human casualty has been reported though.
Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel from Pokhara have left for the affected area for rescue and relief operation. The landslide has also put a bridge at risk.
Earlier yesterday, eight people were buried alive by a landslide at Mijuredanda and Kristi.
