Nat,l Youth Boxing Championship kicks off

DANG, May 29: National Youth Boxing Championship kicked off at Araniko Ground in Tulsipur, Dang on Wednesday. It is the first national level boxing tournament organized in Dang in the last 21 years.



More than 200 young boxers from 27 districts and five boxing clubs of Kathmandu are participating in the championship that runs through Sunday.

In the U-18 boys´ section, Prakash Singh Bista of Bhaktapur and Umesh Chaudhary of Naxal Club reached the quarterfinals of 51 kg weight category on the opening day on Wednesday.



Likewise, Ganesh Shrestha of Meghdut Club, Ganesh Bohara of Bajura and Chandra Jyoti Thapa of Dang reached the quarterfinals of 52 kg weight category in the above-18 boys´ section. Sagar Kumal of Chitwan beat Ram Chaudhary of Naxal to reach the quarterfinals in boys´ 54 kg while Rohit Awale of Patan defeated Sudeep Khatri of Kathmandu in boys´ 60 kg to secure berth in the last eight. Prem Kumar Roka Magar of Salyan edged past Suman Gharti Magar of Rolpa in boys´ 64 kg to enter the quarterfinal round.



Earlier, Nepal Police DIG Topendra Dhwaj Hamal inaugurated the championship organized by Dang District Boxing Association under the initiative of Nepal Boxing Association.
