KATHMANDU, Feb 11: The Central Working Committee meeting of the Nepali Congress has approved the resignation tendered by Nainsingh Mahar, president of the Nepal Students Union, the student’s wing of the party, on Monday.
“The resignation tendered by Nainsingh Mahar, president of Nepal Students Union, has been approved by the Central Working committee meeting,” Deputy General Secretary Krishna Prasad Paudel of the Nepali Congress told Republica Online.
Major General Pandey’s resignation approved
Earlier in the day, President Mahar submitted his resignation at the NC’s CC meeting saying that it would be wise for him to step down at a time when the leaders are sharply divided over whether to give continuity to the existing leadership of the NSU.
The Central Working Committee of the NC had been piling pressure on Mahar, asking him to pave the way for the formation of an ad-hock committee of the NSU.
The elections of the NSU had been on hold since the last two and a half years over the leadership row.
