Quoting Dhungana, the official said, “The resignation of the Executive Director will be approved only after the appointment of a full-time Governor. I cannot approve it now.”

Dr Bhatta submitted his resignation on April 18 but Dhungana has not approved it yet.

Dr Bhatta submitted his resignation with a one-month notice period as per the NRB Staff Regulations. According to an official, the regulations state that if an employee wishes to resign with immediate effect, they must deposit one month's salary to the central bank. However, Dr Bhatta submitted his resignation following the standard one-month notice procedure.

The FIEUN, in a statement, expressed that according to the NRB Act, a new governor should typically be appointed at least one month before the position becomes vacant. However, it is shameful that no new governor has been appointed even a month after the post became vacant.
