KATHMANDU, March 28: Nepali celebrities, including renowned mountaineers, participated in different promotional programs in US to promote Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011 campaign.

Renowned singer Ani Choying Drolma chanted Buddhist and Hindu mantras and sang her famous songs to a large American audience in a Primitive Gallery in downtown Chicago this week, Nepali Embassy in Washington said in a statement.[break]

The program was sponsored by Marvin Brustin, Honorary Consul General of Nepal, and Glen Joffe, the owner of Gallery.

Dolma also invited the audience to visit Nepal and enjoy nature and experience spiritualism in the country.

More than 400 people had attended the event.

Similarly, Nepal Seattle Society organized a tourism promotion program in Seattle a few days ago. Special screening of documentary “Sherpas - The True Heroes of Mount Everest” was organized on the occasion.

Fourteenth time Everest summiteer Lakpa Rita Sherpa, who once held the record of fastest summit of Mt Everest, and Greg Vernovage, a veteran Himalayan climber, had shared their experiences of mountain climbing to the audience.

Nepalese Ambassador to US Dr Shankar Sharma had inaugurated both the programs. Speaking on the occasion, he appreciated Americans for choosing Nepal as their holiday destination.

Tourist arrival from US to Nepal in 2010 is 18.9 percent more than what the country had received a year earlier.
