Jashuli Bishta, 26, of Sunkuda-1 Dhari in the district killed her two daughters -- four years old Ramakala and eight months old Ramita -- by strangling them, said Deputy Inspector General of the Farwestern Regional Police Office Prakash Kunwar. Bishta then hanged herself in her house, Kunwar said.
Her husband Min Bahadur Bishta is said to have gone to India for work.
“The reason behind killings is abject poverty. There´s no other reason,” said DIG Kunwar. Police said that the post mortem examination was carried out at the district hospital on Sunday.
The village is facing acute food crisis due to drought and hailstorms.
