BIRATNAGAR, July 24: More than 300 families have been displaced after floodwaters entered settlements in Morang.
A week long incessant rainfall compounded by heavy overnight rainfall continuing till 9 am this morning has caused considerable damages in Morang.
Although human casualties and losses of livestock have not been reported so far, crops cultivated on thousands of hectares of land have been submerged.
According to information received from the District Police Office, 50 families were displaced after floodwaters entered the Bakari neighborhood at Biratnagar – 16.
Red Cross Morang has been providing food commodities to 26 families in Bakari. Many families have taken shelter in nearby school premises and on the roads. Dozens of houses have been flooded in Katahari area.
At least 50 families were displaced after a flooding in the Bakraha river of Govindapur – 8. They were rescued by police and moved to a community building.
The Red Cross is providing tents and food to 23 families displaced in Sijuwa, said Red Cross Official, Kamal Koirala.
At least 200 families have been displaced in Jayannagar and Suga Bazaar and 35 families in Babiyabirta, it is learnt. RSS
