The team sealed printing machines of Kalika Dairy and Saiju Dairy of Bageshwari, Bhaktapur, and instructed their promoters to include manufacturing and expiring date on their products.[break]
The team formed under the coordination of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control had representations from Bhaktapur District Administration Office (DAO), Office of Small and Cottage Industries, Bhaktapur, police personnel and consumer rights groups.
“We doubt the quality of dairy products produced by the two factories as they don´t have manufacturing and expiry date,” said Pramod Koirala, spokesperson of DFTQC. He further said the team has collected samples from both the companies for lab tests.
“We will publish test results within three days,” Koirala added.
The team also found five water bottling plants, including Jaya Chuma Ganesh, G R Drinks, OK Mineral Water and Jaya Sambhu Mineral Water, of distributing bottled water without including manufacturing and expiry dates.
“We have also taken samples from these companies for lab test,” Koirala added.

The team also seized 30 kg of substandard food items from Naxal-based Shrestha Shopping Center. A member of the inspection team said the shopping center was found distributing food items, including nimki (fried crunchy snacks), without including name of the manufacturer, and manufacturing and expiry dates.
The member said the team has asked Mahesh Shrestha, the owner of the shopping store, to furnish clarification at the DFTQC within three days.

Meanwhile, a market monitoring team dispatched by the Kathmandu DAO found two drug stores - Hamro Pharmacy at TU Teaching Hospital and Himal Medical Hall at Gyaneshwar -- of flouting standards.

Substandard food seized in Itahari
ITAHARI: A market monitoring team of Sunsari District Administration Office (DAO) on Wednesday seized huge volume of date expired foods from Itahari-based Maruti Traders.
Assistant CDO of Sunsari Basudev Ghimire said they monitoring team found huge volume of substandard food commodities and smuggled goods at the store.
The team had representatives from Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, Office of Standard and Metrology, Office of Cottage and Small Industries and representatives of trade associations.
It has sealed the firm and warned the promoter of the store to stop selling substandard food.

The monitoring team sought police support for market inspection after local traders refused to cooperate with the team last week. The team monitored six sweet shops and 18 groceries on the day.
“In course of our inspection, we found that only a few stores had placed price list in the store," Ghimire said, adding, “We will initiate action against those stores if they failed to follow the required standards.”
