The service centers at Sallaghari in Bhaktapur and Balaju in Kathmandu will come into operation within the second week of January.
“We are at the final stage to launch the service centers which are expected to reduce the number of service seekers and hence improve service delivery at BZTO,” Babu Ram Acharya, secretary at the MOLTM, told myrepublica.com on Sunday. Acharya said the Ministry of Finance has sanctioned Rs 4 million to operate the two service centers.
In the first phase, the service centers will provide services related to registration, renewal and transfer of ownership, vehicle fitness test and all other services except issuing driving licenses.
According to the latest government data, number of vehicles in the capital has shot up to 444,700 in 2009, up from 308,000 recorded in 2005. About 74 percent of vehicles plying on the capital roads are motorbikes.
The MoLTM recently opened trial center for driving license in the premises of Sajha Yatayat at Pulchowk, to lessen crowd at Baggikhana of Kathmandu.
“Crowd in Baggikhana has significantly dropped with the opening of the new trial center at Pulchowk. In the first phase, we are conducting trials only for motorcycle drivers at Pulchowk center,” Acharya said.
When will the closed trial centers reopen?
