KATHMANDU, Jan 28: The government has built integrated agriculture and livestock service centers in 30 different municipalities at a cost of Rs 1 billion. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development built the service centers under the Rural Enterprise and Economic Development (REED) Project.
According to project head, Chandra Prasad Rijal, the centers equipped with state-of-the-art technology and facilities, built at a cost of about three million rupees in each municipality, will be handed over to the respective municipalities within the current fiscal year. He said that the government is planning to build such centers in 10 more municipalities from the next fiscal year.
What is missing in budget for agriculture?
The REED project will facilitate strengthening market access through the development of productive partnerships and market relations between small agricultural producers and buyers in major economic corridor areas to encourage rural entrepreneurship development. The aim of the project is to provide support in creating a suitable entrepreneurship environment through other supporting services including necessary policy framework for agriculture and livestock development, construction of necessary structures and capacity development.
Rijal, the project head, said that the best business plan to promote productive partnership is expanding investment in the areas of supplemental subsidy, construction of small agricultural market centers based on demand, construction of infrastructure related to value chain, and construction of regional markets. The Economic Corridor has been connected to all provinces except Karnali Province.
