KATHMANDU, June 10: The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the Legislature-Parliament has ordered the Ministry of Education (MoE) to investigate into alleged irregularities in printing answer sheets for the recently-conducted grade XI and XII exams.

PAC summoned the top officials of Higher Secondary Education Board (HSEB), responsible for conducting plus two exams, Thursday after it smelt rat in the latter´s process of printing answer sheets. [break]

PAC members had inquired Ram Bahadur Khadka, Member Secretary of HSEB, about the bidding process and the complaints of insufficient distribution of answer sheets reported from several districts.

Though satisfied with Khadka´s clarification on the bidding process, PAC instructed MoE to investigate into the complaints of the delivery of insufficient answer sheets and submit its report in 10 days. HSEB has been accused of printing low quality answer sheets.

On Thursday, some PAC members had demanded immediate suspension of top HSEB officials for paving way for a fair investigation into the alleged irregularities. However, some other PAC members had argued that suspending HSEB official would be immature.

HSEB was dragged into controversy after two of its members, Kameshwar Mandal and Padam Raj Pathak, had opposed its bidding process. In addition, reports about distribution of insufficient answer sheets had also prompted PAC to grill HSEB officials.
