Indian Prime Minister Modi made the commitment to provide assistance to Nepal in the aftermath of the two major earthquakes that rattled various parts of Nepal during his telephone conversation with Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Wednesday.According to a press statement issued by Prime Minister Koirala's press coordinator Prakash Adhikari, Prime Minister Koirala thanked Modi and Indian people for prompt and spontaneous support to Nepal in the aftermath of the first major earthquake that caused mass devastation on April 25. Prime Minister Koirala said Indian support had encouraged the international community to extend their support to Nepal at this hour of national tragedy.
During the telephone conversation, Prime Minister Koirala had appreciated the role played by Indian Search and Rescue and Relief teams in saving life and providing relief to the victims in coordination with Nepal's security agencies, medical teams and civil servants. Indian Prime Minister Modi had sent his national security advisor and foreign secretary to Nepal to talk to the government officials in Nepal as to what kind of support was needed in Nepal.
Prime Minister Koirala said that Nepal faces a huge challenge to rehabilitate the victims and reconstruct the damaged infrastructures due to massive earthquake. While stating that they do not have exact idea about the loss so far, Prime Minister Koirala said the government is making assessment of the loss incurred due to the earthquake.
