KASKI, Aug 14: Three people, including a priest, are at risk after flooding in the Modi River left them stranded at Mata Annapurna Temple in Haijung, Annapurna Rural Municipality 5 of Kaski.
The three were trapped at the temple, located on a mound in the middle of the river, after the water level rose following incessant rainfall overnight. Assistant Chief District Officer Chitrang Baral said their names and addresses were not immediately known.

“Two metal bridges on either side of the temple were swept away, leaving the three people stranded. Preparations are underway for their rescue, and an Armed Police Force team equipped with rescue materials has already reached the site,” Baral said.
After receiving information about the incident, a four-member police team led by Assistant Sub Inspector Ramesh Adhikari was dispatched from the Nayapul Police Post at 1:27 am for the rescue operation.
The district administration said a 13-member disaster management team led by Police Naib Inspector Sharan Bahadur Khadka from Armed Police Force No. 24 Kalika Battalion, Kaski, has also been deployed to the site.
Police warned that continued rainfall could further increase the river’s flow, raising the risk of the mound and the temple itself being swept away.
Meanwhile, flooding in the Modi River has eroded the road near Birethanti in Annapurna Rural Municipality 8, completely disrupting the Nayapul, Birethanti, Ghandruk road section, according to Assistant Chief District Officer Baral.
