“The international observance is being celebrated under the theme ´From peace in the home to peace in the world´. So we chose a couple who maintained long and peaceful co-existence, setting a good example of perfect family in the community,” said Kedarnath Khanal, director of Diyalo Pariwar, a nongovernmental organization, which has been conducting a Gardi-Baghauda Community Development Program in Chitwan. The program encompasses 9 women groups with members from 410 households of the locality. “Out of the over 400 households, Dal Bahadur and Sita were found to be the most amiable couple,” Said Til Kumari Mahato, the chairman of the community development program.
According to Mahato, in their community, the couple is known to be the most compatible couple as the husband and wife help each other out in household chores and consult each other on all family matters. The BK couple has two daughters both of whom go to school.
“Our society looks down on the parents who beget only daughters. That is why some couples have many daughters as they continue to sire in the hopes of son. But we were satisfied with our two girls. We will provide education and skills to them to the best of our capacity,” said Sita. The BK couple support each other even in income generation. Sita, who is involved in a women´s group, started raising goats a years ago.
“While working in the group, I have to visit other places. Sometimes there will be training, and other program in the village itself. But my husband never stops me from attending any program. I am lucky to have a husband who is caring and cooperative,” said Sita.
“We have been living a harmonious conjugal life. Living a life without friction is really advantageous for our family and the children,” said Dal Bahadur.
