Even the first phase of the construction of the track road remains incomplete--thanks to the dispute with the locals over compensation of the land acquired by the government for the project.[break]
The Dailekh-Jajarkot and Jajarkot-Rukum sections of the highway could be completed this fiscal year, according to the companies involved in the construction.
Similarly, due to the dispute between locals of Manghar and Moheltolee VDCs in Dailekh , the task of opening the track in the area remain stalled for over a year now, said Chief District Officer, Hem Nath Thapaliya.
Even though the local residents and politicians have finally agreed on the places through which the highway track will pass through the district, the construction work remains stalled following a dispute over the compensation amount for the acquired land, he informed.
Heavy rainfall has also played affecte the project, the CDO added.
"Many human settlements along the highway came under the risk of landslide; as a result, the construction work had to be stopped as it may further worsen the situation."
As much as 28 houses in the district face a high risk of landslide lately due to the construction work. The Central Natural Disaster Relief Committee (CNDRC) under the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to provide compensation to each household.
Gore Bahadur Tamang, a contractor for a construction company involved in the project, said the houses came under the risk as the highway construction work was carried out without enough safety measures.
