Micro enterprise for poverty alleviation in Rolpa

ROLPA, Feb 11: The Human Rights Awareness Centre (HURAC), Rolpa has implemented the micro enterprise development programme in Rolpa district for poverty alleviation. 

The programme is run in eight places including in one municipality and seven rural municipalities, Programme coordinator Binod Rijal said. The programme is implemented in Rolpa Municipality and in Subarnawati, Langri, Sun Chhahari, Rundigadhi, Madi, Pariwartan and Sukidaha rural municipalities of the district. 

The programme's strategic plan is to promote the establishment of small, cottage, micro and big enterprises by utilising local skills and resources, HURAC Rolpa's chairperson Ghanshyam Acharya said. 

He added that contributing to the national economy through employment growth, export promotion and import substitution by promoting and expanding the industries was the main objective of the programme. The programme also aims to increase the contribution of the industry sector to the GDP through enhanced industrial output. 

In this connection, various skill development training are being conducted at the selected areas where the programme is under implementation to support the beneficiaries in starting enterprises or improving their businesses. 

The training being imparted include tailoring, making bamboo wares, weaving shawls and bags, poultry keeping, pig farming, mushroom farming and vegetable cultivation for commercial purposes. 

The selection of trainees will be done in the ratio of 30 per cent from the dalit community, 40 per cent from the indigenous nationalities and 30 per cent from other communities. It is stipulated that 70 per cent of all the selected trainees should be women. 

The programme is implemented with the financial assistance of the Industry Development Section under Rolpa municipal government. Rs 6 million 896 thousand 342 has been allocated for the programme. RSS
