SINDHUPALCHOK, June 23: A devastating flash flood triggered by a huge landslide in the Himalayas of Helambu, once a brimming city of Melamchi, is scrambling through the residue of the flood.
People have returned to their houses to collect their leftover belongings after the river has returned to its original course.
Three killed in separate road accidents in Jhapa
People are digging to extract sands and residues to make their houses liveable again. The remnants of bridges, vehicles and plants still hang on through the windows. The flash flood of the last week has turned a bustling market and economic center of the district into a sandbank.
Hundreds of families have been displaced and are taking shelter at nearby schools as well as the higher grounds. Property and infrastructures worth billions of rupees have been swept away along with dreams of hundreds of locals living in the area.
