Maharjan, who earned bronze medal in men´s 81 kg weight category in boxing, was speaking about the country´s performance at the Dasharath Stadium premises after his arrival from Guangzhou on Monday.[break]
Maharjan said that his 3-year long self-training helped him in his achievement. “I had been undergoing regular training for last three years and I think that helped me win the medal,” Maharjan said.
Maharjan, who won the only medal for Nepali boxing since 1990 Beijing Asiad, said his next ambition is to qualify for Olympics.
“Now I will do my best to qualify for upcoming Olympics to be held in London in 2012,” said the pugilist when asked about his plan. None of the Nepali boxers has ever qualified for boxing event in Olympics.
Maharjan received a splendid welcome by boxing officials and people from his native village of Bosigaun on his arrival.

He was escorted by a cheering crowd and traditional folk music from Tribhuvan International Airport to the Dasharath Stadium and from there to his village.
