BIRATNAGAR, June 20: Binod Dhakal, CPN-UML candidate for the mayoral post of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, has publicized a five-year work plan to transform the city into a megacity.
On Monday, a program was organized in Biratnagar where the candidates publicized their election manifestos. Speaking at the program, Dhakal expressed his wish to create a megacity by merging the nearby rural municipalities.
According to him, he will resolve the issues of displaced, marginalized and underprivileged people within five years. He has even guaranteed to provide shelter to such people. With this, he has also expressed his desire to develop Biratnagar as the capital of Province 2. As mentioned in the manifesto, Dhakal wants to develop Biratnagar as the transit between China and India. By intensifying the cleanliness and sanitation campaigns, he wants to make it a model town and a tourism hub.
As stated by Dhakal, in recent years, Biratnagar has been losing its recognition as the pillar of economic development of the country. He stressed the need to establish exhibition halls in order to showcase the arts, artifacts, natural resources and products of the city. He further informed that he will be trying his best to develop industries and other sectors of the city in order to support the economy of the country. As per his plans, an international stadium will be built in order to develop Biratnagar as a sports city. Besides that, he has formulated some plans and policies for the development of airport.
Former minister and CPN-UML politburo member Lal Babu Pandit, local development expert Tara Niraula, vice chairperson of Morang Ram Lal Sah among others were present in the function.
