BIRATNAGAR, May 17: Nepali Congress (NC) candidate Nagesh Koirala has been leading the mayoral race in Biratnagar Metropolitan City since the start of the vote-counting. Similarly, CPN-UML candidate Shilpa Karki has been leading the local polls for the post of deputy-mayor.
As per the latest results of the ongoing vote-counting, Koirala has taken the lead securing 11,876 votes so far, while his closest rival Sagar Kumar Thapa of the CPN-UML has received 9,075 votes. Likewise, independent candidate Umesh Kumar Yadav has received 3,927 votes while Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) candidate Prahal Prasad Shah has received 2,539 votes.

Meanwhile, CPN-UML candidate Kakri is leading with 10,426 votes in the contest for the post of deputy mayor. Karki’s closest rival Amarendra Yadav of the Janata Samajwadi Party has received 6,382 votes so far.
