A group led by the party´s district secretary D B Lama smeared used engine oil on Guragain´s face when he was preparing to leave for monthly meeting of office heads in the district. [break]
"A person came and asked me the procedure for transferring ownership of land to my mother from his mother. He asked me to wait for a minute after I stood up saying that the land is legally transferred to the heir. Then suddenly he took out a can from his jacket pocket and blackened my face while two persons took my photographs," Guragain related the incident.
The Maoist cadres, eyewitnesses said, then fled the scene on three motorcycles. Police reached the spot only 10 minutes after the miscreants fled.
A local weekly newspaper had been publishing articles about the party´s plan to take action against office heads.The administration didn´t provide any security to the office heads despite repeated threats, office epoyees said, adding, the Maoist cadres might have become emboldened as the Nepal Students´ Union cadres who smeared soot on the face of District Education Officer Sundar Kumar Shakya in April faced no action.
"We will take action against the guilty," Chief District Officer (CDO) Sudhir Kumar Shah said.
