Maruti Suzuki clinches Marwadi cricket title

KATHMANDU, April 21: Maruti Suzuki XI Kathmandu clinched the title of Nepal Marwadi Cricket League on Saturday as half century from Amol Sharma and a hat-trick from Sunil Gaggar guided the team to a 22-run victory over Arihant Group Biratnagar.



In the final of the super league held at TU Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, Arihant Group won the toss and invited Maruti Suzuki to bat first. Maruti Suzuki scored 144 runs losing seven wickets.[break]



Maruti Suzuki started the innings well as the openers Hitesh Dalmiya and Amol Sharma shared a 47-run partnership for the first wicket. Dalmiya gave away his wicket with 31 runs off 21 balls that included three boundaries and a huge six. Amol and Rohit Sharma shared a 72-run partnership for the second wicket.



Amol Sharma gave away his wicket scoring 55 runs off 56 balls that included six boundaries. Rohit Sharma and Rahul Bansal shared a 24-run partnership for the third wicket. Maruti Suzuki was 143/3 in the last over of the match.



Gaurav Sethia of Arihant Group grabbed four wickets in the last over with a hat-trick to restrict Maruti Suzuki at 144 runs. Bansal (21 off 7) was stumped off Sethia´s ball in the first ball of the last over. Sethia bowled Abhishek Bathwal in the second ball and in the third ball Gaurav Jain was stumped. In the fourth ball Rohit Sharma (30) was run out. In the last ball of the innings Sethia took the wicket of Summit Sharma.



Chasing the total of 145 runs, Arihant Group had a good start in the beginning but was all out for 122 runs in 17 overs.



Opener Abhishek Agrawal and Shailesh Sethia shared a 67- run partnership for the first wicket. Sethia gave away his wicket scoring 44 runs off 37 balls with four boundaries and a six.



Agrawal and Rohit Jajodia shared a 27- run partnership for the second wicket which was the last good partnership for Arihant Group. Agrawal scored 25 runs while Jajodia scored 21 runs.



Arihant Group had match in its hand until Sunil Gaggar came to bowl his second over. Gagger took the wickets of Pankaj Parakh Pawan, Pankaj Lunia and Arihant Baid in the fourth, fifth and sixth ball of the 18th over. Summit Sharma grabbed four wickets while Amol Sharma took two wickets.



Skipper of Maruti Suzuki Hitesh Dalmiya said that the team performed well in bowling as well as in fielding and achieved the victory. “0ur main target was to remove Shailesh Sethia from the crease as soon as possible and we succeeded in it.”



Skipper of Arihant Group Paras Lunia said that poor fielding and middle order batting threw the match from their hand. “We gave our best but the middle order batsmen failed to perform.”



With the win Maruti Suzuki bagged a purse of Rs 150,000 while Arihant Group bagged Rs 75,000. Jay Prakash Sarraf of RMC Yodha was awarded with best batsmen while Summit Sharma received best bowler and player-of-the-series award.
