Market inspectors seal Teku eatery

KATHMANDY, Oct 29: Market inspectors deployed by the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DoFTQC) on Tuesday Pachali Bhairav Restaurant in Teku after they found the eatery selling substandard sweets.



Media persons and police personnel were also in the team. "The eatery was also found selling outdated products. It was being run in an unhygienic environment. We had no option but to seal it," Pramod Koirala, spokesperson of the DoFTQC.[break]



Media persons and police personnel were also in the team. With Tihar around the corner, the DoFTQC has intensified market monitoring. It is focusing on sweets shops as sweets are among the most consumed commodity during this festival.



The department on the day inspected six other sweets shops in Jawlakhel and Lagankhel areas. The team found that most of the shops were run in unhygienic conditions. Ganesh Mithai Bhandar, Shreya Sweets, Badri ko Halwai Pasal, Jawalakhel Sweet Shop, Sanoj Sweet Shop and Lagankhel Sweets were found using excessive colors in sweet items.



"We will take necessary action against these shops very soon," added Koirala.
