Marijuana smuggler killed in exchange of fire with police in Bara

BARA, Feb 24: A shootout took place between marijuana smugglers and police at Simraungadh Municipality-2 on Wednesday night. A marijuana smuggler was shot dead by the police while an Indian national was arrested, according to Bara police.

A spokesperson for the District Police Office, Bara, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Thapa said that an unidentified marijuana smuggler was killed in retaliation while another, Hirdesh Giri, a resident of Pipra village in Motihari district of Bihar, India, was arrested.

According to DSP Thapa, the marijuana smugglers in a group of seven to eight people who were smuggling cannabis from Nepal to India, fired at the police who were there to take control of the smugglers. DSP Thapa said that the smugglers fired at the police and one smuggler was injured in retaliatory firing. The injured died while undergoing treatment at Kalaiya Hospital.

Similarly, he said that the police were inquiring Giri about the killed smuggler and an investigation was underway. According to Thapa, the police have seized 75 kg of cannabis in five jute bags from the spot and further investigation is underway.
