KATHMANDU, Nov 13: Maoists have said that they will vehemently oppose the tabling of the annual budget by the caretaker government, but said they are not sure if they will disrupt the parliamentary proceedings to block the budget.

“The caretaker government cannot table the budget forcefully. It will be a dictatorial move; it´s a travesty of parliamentary practice,” said Maoist spokesperson Dinanath Sharma. But he did not explicitly say if his party would disrupt the House meeting if the government tabled the budget. “The party will take an appropriate decision,” said Sharma.[break]

Sharma said only the new government has the right to table the budget, and argued that the UML-led current government has made fun of parliamentary system. “The UML has led the caretaker government, and the party refrains from voting in the parliamentary race,” he said.

The Maoist spokesperson said his party would play a constructive role as the main opposition party if the UML voted to elected Ram Chandra Paudel as prime minister. “But the UML has deceived both the Nepali Congress and the country,” he said.
