The Maoist party has opted for collective leadership in view of complaints from leaders that the party chairman has been taking decisions single-handedly which they said is against the spirit of democracy. "The issue has not been brought at the ongoing central committee (CC) meeting for fear of dispute over the names," said the source.
The names might be formally presented at the CC after the top leaders reach consensus on the names, said the source. But some leaders are still arguing that the party should adopt collective leadership from the upcoming general convention, which is due since the last 18 years. "The top leaders have held several meetings, and are likely to reach consensus in a couple of days," said the leader.
While allocating the positions, the leaders have stressed balance of power between the party´s hardliners and the establishment faction. Senior leader Baidya represents the hard-line camp, Dr Bhattarai represents establishment faction while Ram Bahadur Thapa is regarded neutral. Similarly Shrestha is the leader of then CPN (Ekata Kendra Masal), which formally merged with the UCPN (Maoist) few months back.
