Maoists will perish if they tried to impose totalitarianism: Koirala

BUTWAL, May 6: Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala on Friday warned that Maoists would perish if they tried to impose totalitarian rule in the country.



Addressing a mass rally organized by the party in Butwal, President Koirala argued that all the rulers who tried to impose dictatorial rule in the country in the past had perished and that the Maoists would share the same fate if it tried to impose totalitarian rule forcibly. He also suggested the Maoists not to go against democratic system of governance.[break]



Koirala alleged that Maoists are not ready to severe their ties with arms for fear of being defeated by the people. He also warned if Maoists chose to go to war again, the country would see a disaster.



Speaking on the occasion, NC Senior Leader Sher Bahadur Deuba said that new constitution is not possible unless the Maoist cooperate to conclude the ongoing peace process.



NC Vice-president and Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Paudel argued that the country has fallen into problem because of the Maoists and the dubious and opportunist policies of the CPN-UML.



Likewise, NC General Secretaries Prakash Man Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula said NC would not help endorse undemocratic constitution under any circumstance or pressure.



This is the third mass rally, after Pokhara and Birtamod, organized by NC as a part of the party´s ´national awareness peace campaign´.
