KATHMANDU, Jan 6: The CPN (Maoist Center) is going to contest the upcoming elections without forming an alliance with the Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN-UML, the two biggest parties of the country. A political proposal submitted by Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal says that the party will contest the upcoming elections by allying with small left and progressive forces, and not with the NC and the UML. The proposal was approved by the central committee meeting of the Maoist Center held on Sunday.

After the meeting, Maoist Center Vice Chairman and Spokesperson Agni Prasad Sapkota maintained that the party will contest the upcoming elections without an alliance with the Congress and the UML. He said that Chairman Dahal had proposed in the meeting to take initiatives for unity with the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, Nepal Socialist Party, CPN-Majority, Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN along with Mohan Vaidya, Prabhu Sah and others.

In the meeting, Chairman Dahal proposed to launch a postal highway-centric Tarai-Madhes campaign in the first phase to reach out to the people and then a mid-hill highway-centric campaign. The Maoists are preparing to launch a highway-centric campaign like the UML did earlier.

In the meeting, Dahal instructed the central members to submit their property details. “Chairman Dahal has verbally instructed the central members to submit their asset details within the next two months,” said a member attending the meeting.

Dahal had said that the general public should be able to understand how the leaders are making a living. In the meeting, he said that the vast central committee is both an opportunity and a challenge for the party. “Our vast central committee is a challenge and an opportunity in itself,” one of the central members quoted Dahal as saying.
