He said the two major parties were hindering the three-party taskforce, formed to suggest way out, by quibbling over the form of words used to refer to the presidential move.
The Maoists have been protesting the president´s staying the sacking of the then army chief Rookmangud Katawal and want the move to be mentioned in a joint resolution but the Nepali Congress wants to avoid mentioning the move at all.
Khanal claimed that if the parties fail to write the new constitution within the stipulated time, the country will slip into a serious crisis. "If the constitution is not written by May 28, 2010, the Constituent Assembly (CA), the legislature parliament and the government formed by this House will be dissolved and there will be no existence of president either," he said at a UML function in Kathmandu Friday. "Then what institution will be left to salvage the country. You can just imagine."
The UML chief claimed that none other than the Maoists and NC leaders will be responsible for the consequences. "UML will not own up the failure because it is ready to accept the recommendations of the three-party taskforce," he said.
He argued that both the UCPN (Maoist) and NC had become equally irresponsible in the recent days.

He condemned recent Maoist attack at the venue of UML district convention in Salyan. "The brutal nature of the attack unleashed by Maoists clearly shows that there are hordes of criminals in the Maoist party. Such people cannot be communists," he said.
