KATHMANDU, March 26: The ruling Unified Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) has strongly protested the Supreme Court ruling on the dispute over non-extension of terms of eight Nepal Army generals. The party took out protest demonstration in Kathmandu on Wednesday where participants chanted strong slogans against the Supreme Court.
Three Maoist CA members and the chief of Maoist Young Communist League addressing the protestors termed the Supreme Court as a club of feudals, Kantipur daily said.
The demonstration was organized by Maoist Newa Rajya Committee at Ratnapark. Addressing the demonstrators Maoist CA member and lawyer Ek Raj Bhandari said the Supreme Court order served a blow on people’s aspiration. He said Constituent Assembly can impeach judges who pass anti-people verdicts.

Another Maoist CA member and trade unionist Shaligram Jammakattel said the court order is a part of a plot to kill the Maoists just like in the insurgency days. He warned that the Maoists along with hundreds of thousands of people would storm into the courthouse if the court did not rectify the order.
Maoist leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha, deputy leader of Maoist parliamentary party, termed the demonstration as perfectly natural. Wrong decisions of the court should be protested, he said.
Nepali Congress termed the demonstration against the Supreme Court by Maoists as an attempt to impose authoritarianism.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Defense on Wednesday in a petition has appealed to the court demanding scrapping of the interim order. The ministry in the appeal has said its decision not to extend the terms of the generals is lawful and the court should scrap its Tuesday’s interim order.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the Ministry of Defence not to implement its decision on non-extension of terms of eight army brigadier generals saying the ministry did not mention enough grounds for not extending the terms.
