Maoists, cops clash in Pokhara; 16 hurt

POKHARA, Oct 9: At least 16 persons including a policeman and a Maoist Constituent Assembly (CA) member were injured in a clash between Maoist cadres and police in Pokhara on Friday.



The clash ensued after the Maoists waved black flags to Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal when he was entering the city hall to inaugurate the third national assembly of Higher Secondary Teachers’ Association (HSTA).







Policeman Krishna Tharu was critically injured in the incident and is being treated at the Western Regional Hospital in Pokhara. Tharu has received injuries to his eyes, face and head, Deputy Superintendent of Police Tulasi Adhikari said.



Likewise, 15 Maoist protesters including Maoist lawmaker Durga BK, Kaski deputy in-charge Ramji Baral and Sthir Prasad Khanal of HSTA were also injured in the clash, Baral informed. The injured Maoists are undergoing treatment at Abhiyan Community Hospital in Prithvi Chowk.



Pokhara remained tense for three hours due to the clash.
