Cops, timber smugglers clash, hurt 9

GAUSHALA, Sept. 11: Nine people, three of them policemen, were seriously injured in a clash between policemen and timber smugglers at Gaushala in Mahottari district.



The clash took place late on Tuesday night after the Area Police Office, Gaushala intercepted and took under control timber loaded on a tractor while it was being brought to Auhari from Belgachhi. [break]



The alleged timber smugglers and their associates who came in a strength of 50 from Belgachhi, clashed with police.



Inspector Deepak Giri is among the policemen injured in the clash. Police said the clash took place after the timber smugglers and their associates picketed the police station and started throwing rocks. Police have taken two persons under control in this connection.
