"We have decided to boycott the process of election of a new government as we believe this government will be a puppet of foreign imperialist forces and under military supremacy," said Shrestha.
He, however, said the Maoists were not boycotting the parliament session and the Constituent Assembly process.
He said the new government is not a resolution of the current problem. "It is going to fulfill someone´s desires but without making national consensus, country´s outstanding problems will not be resolved."
Shrestha said the way the parliament is going to elect a prime minister was not natural. "Without restoring civilian supremacy and correcting the president´s move, the new government will be unconstitutional," said Shrestha. "This government has wrong political ground as it is being formed as a ploy to sabotage the peace and constitution-making process and restore military supremacy."
"I want to give you a benefit of doubt, if you are nationalist, you will come back to the path drawn by the people´s movement."
Leader of CPN (Unified) Pari Thapa also walked out of the meeting, saying his party cannot participate in a process that cannot give any solution to the country´s problem.
Gayatri Sah of Nepali Janata Dal also boycotted the meeting saying there was no meaning of the process unless the president´s move was corrected.
Amid the Maoists´ boycott, the parliament meeting is set to elect CPN-UML leader Madhav Nepal as the new prime minister.
