Maoists attack medical store

POKHARA, May 3: Two persons including a child were injured when Maoists attacked a medical store in Pokhara on Monday.



The Maoists attacked Shishuwa Medical Centre at Prithvi Chwok reportedly for opening the store defying their ongoing general strike. [break]



The injured included Tika Ram Sharma, the store-owner, and 3-year old Sandesh Paudel. Both were treated at Charak Hospital. Paudel sustained a deep wound in his head. Sharma sustained bruises all over his body.



According to Sharma, YCL cadres stormed the store after locals held a Maoist cadre and handed him over to the police.



The Maoists rained batons on Sharma. Sharma said he saved himself by taking shelter in a nearby police van.



The police arrested a Maoist cadre, Kali Bahadur Pandey, for the attack.
