An asthma patient, KC had gone to Tulspiur for the demonstrations after the Maoists issued directives in the village to send at least one person from every household. Police said the death was due to immediate unavailability of a vehicle to take the patient for treatment. They did not file any report, terming it a natural death.
More cadres fall ill
Meanwhile, more Maoist cadres taking part in the anti-government protests have fallen ill due to consumption of unhygienic water and food and problems with acclimatization.
One person from Salyan is currently at the Intensive Care Unit of Janamaitri Hospital while eight others are also at the hospital, according to front office in-charge at the hospital Navaraj Giri.
Similarly, two patients admitted to Teku Hospital Monday remained hospitalized while another suffering from typhoid following diarrhea has been admitted at Bir. Similarly, a few patients have also been admitted at Kathmandu Model Hospital.
"We gave medicines ourselves for minor problems and referred two or three more serious cases from each of the 18 camps to hospitals," Secretariat Member of All Nepal Health Workers Association Dr Gyanendra Shah said. He said most of the cases are common colds and throat complaints, others are allergies and a few are diarrhea and other problems.
The association, which had said around 300 fell ill in Kathmandu on Monday, claimed that the number of fresh patients decreased after precautionary measures were taken. "We have started chlorinating water at the source, making everyone wash their hands after going to the toilet and monitoring sanitation standards at the kitchens," Dr Shah added.
Likewise, another 21 Maoist cadres, brought to Dang from the neighboring districts of Salyan and Pyuthan, are suffering from diarrhea and common cold. They were taken to local clinics after the Maoist-affiliated health workers could not attend to them. Fifty cadres had fallen ill in the district Monday.
