Police arrested him from Sundar Bazaar of Lamjung on Sunday for brutally thrashing Rishiram Basnet of Beshisahar a month ago. Adhikari has been taken into custody.
Issuing separate statements, UCPN (Maoist) District Chairman Ram Chandra Poudel and office secretary Devendra Poudel have demanded Adhikari´s release claiming his innocence.
The Maoists have warned of strike if Adhikari is not released at the earliest.
