KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Questions have surfaced within the ruling CPN (Maoist Center) over the extravagant lifestyle of party chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal and his daughter Ganga Dahal, mayor of Bharatpur Metropolitan City.
During the ongoing Central Committee meeting, party member and SAARC in-charge Laxman Pant submitted a written proposal challenging the legality and source of Dahal’s Rolex watch, reportedly valued at Rs 6.4 million, and Ganga Dahal’s Louis Vuitton bag worth Rs 2.8 million.

The controversy comes in the wake of the September 8–9 Gen Z protests, which were driven in part by public anger over politicians’ lavish lifestyles.
Pant argued that the Maoist Center’s anti-corruption drive must begin from within, urging Dahal to pursue defamation cases against both the media outlets that reported the matter and Nepali Congress lawmaker Sunil Sharma, who raised the issue in parliament, if the allegations are false.
“The matter of the chairman’s Rs 6.4 million Rolex watch and his daughter’s Rs 2.8 million Louis Vuitton bag has been in the public domain for a long time,” Pant said in his proposal. “If the reports are false, the chairman should immediately take legal action against the concerned media and against MP Sunil Sharma.”
Pant further argued that even if such expensive items were received as gifts, they should be used for public benefit rather than personal use. Drawing a parallel with former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan—currently jailed over allegations of misusing state gifts—Pant stressed the need for transparency and accountability in the lifestyle of party leaders.
