JAJARKOT, Oct 23: Leaders and cadres of the CPN (Maoist Centre) have expressed their disappointment over the decision of left electoral alliance to field candidates of CPN-UML from both constituencies of Jajarkot for the provincial elections slated for November 26.

Maya Prasad Sharma, Province 6 Coordinator of the Maoist Centre termed the decision as “an insult to hundreds of Maoist leaders and cadres who shed their blood in the Maoist war to get to this position.”

"Just to secure political space for some, we won't let the sacrifice of hundreds of people go in vain. This decision is not acceptable at all," said Sharma.  According to him, Jajarkot is a base of the decade-long Maoist conflict and therefore, the party must be allowed to field its candidate from at least one of the two constituencies in the district.

Similarly, Kali Bahadur Malla, a Secretariat member of the CPN (Maoist Centre) and former member of the constituent assembly too criticized the decision taken by the alliance. He said that the decision is a great insult to the Maoist leaders. "At this time, we have no other option than to follow the party's decision but we are sure the people won't support this decision,” he said.

The CPN (Maoist Centre) had recommended the name of Shakti Bahadur Basnet for the parliamentary elections and Ganesh Prasad Singh for the provincial elections from constituency no.1 and Nar Bahadur Karki for constituency no.2. As informed by Sharma, the party will soon hold a meeting to find a way out.

Meanwhile, Niraj Acharya, a leader of CPN-UML, told Republica that the decision taken by the alliance is free from biases and is fair for all. In other districts the CPN-UML has not been given the chance to field its candidates in any of the seats, but still its leaders and cadres have fully accepted the decision, he informed. According to him, the alliance is not favoring any party but is rather taking decisions which will bring positive results.
