KHOTANG, Nov 3: The recently forged electoral alliance between CPN-UML and CPN (Maoist Center) has elated a lot of leaders in Khotang but some cadres in both sides are still holding grudges. Some of those unimpressed by the decision say that it is really hard for them to cast votes for the party which was once their rival.

If the parties fail to convince such members, it might lead to backsatabbing and will also develop fissures within the alliance. Due to some bitter experiences of the past, cadres of the two parties are unable to accept each other. Taking that into consideration, the left alliance has decided to organize joint programs to resolve the issues among the cadres. The alliance has not just prioritized joint mass gatherings but interactive programs for the leaders and cadres.

Before kicking off the election preparations, the alliance had conducted an interaction program in the district headquarters Diktel on October 24. Since then, such programs have been conducted in various municipalities and rural municipalities as well.

Kumar Acharya, district under-secretary of CPN-UML, informed that such programs have been conducted in Halesi of Halesi Tuwachung Municipality, Kubhinde of Lamidanda Rural Municipality and Barahapokhari of Barahapokhari Rural Municipality. According to him, the alliance will continue to conduct such programs and trainings as they play a vital role in strengthening the relationship among the cadres of both the left forces.

“We are trying our best to convince the cadres of CPN (Maoist Center) to cast their votes on sun and the cadres of CPN-UML are told to pick the hammer and sickle within the circle,” Acharya said. By putting aside all the grudges, negative feelings, bitterness and enmity, the parties are all set to take part in the elections together.

“It is not easy to let go the strong feelings of rivalry so easily but still we are making efforts to reduce it to some extent,” said Acharya.

The alliance has announced to conduct mass gatherings and interaction programs side by side in two municipalities and eight rural municipalities of the district.

“It is very important to create emotional and ideological unity between the members of the alliance so that its objective can be accomplished,” said Homkaji Acharya, secretariat member of CPN (Maoist Center), Khotang.
