Party insiders report that Vice Chair Urmila Aryal, Narayan Dahal, and Jhakku Prasad Subedi are vying for the nomination.
However, Chairman and Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal is likely to endorse Narayan Dahal as the party’s official candidate.
Meanwhile, the main opposition party, Nepali Congress, has also begun preparing for the election.
Before the Maoist Center severed its alliance with the Nepali Congress, the latter was expected to nominate Krishna Prasad Sitaula for the coveted post.
However, due to the recent political change, the party has yet to make a formal decision.
Nominations for the National Assembly Chairman position are due on Monday, with the election itself taking place on Tuesday.
