Man drowns in Bhimphedi stream during picnic outing

MAKWANPUR, July 5: A man from Birgunj lost his life after being swept away by a stream in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality, Makwanpur, on Saturday afternoon.


The victim, identified as approximately 45–50-year-old Purushottam Sharma of Birgunj Metropolitan City–5, had traveled to Bhimphedi-1’s Tauwas area with a group of friends for a picnic, according to the District Police Office, Makwanpur.

The group had rented an electric vehicle from Birgunj and arrived at Tauwas stream for recreation. At around 3:15 p.m., while 4–5 members of the group were bathing and crossing the stream, the water level suddenly surged.


Sharma was swept away by the strong current. Upon receiving the report, a police team from the Bhaise police post was dispatched to the scene. His body was discovered approximately 400 meters downstream, already deceased.


Police have secured the site and dispatched an additional team led by Inspector Bishwambhar Nath Sah from the District Police Office, Makwanpur, for further investigation and to complete preliminary documentation.


An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
