KATHMANDU, May 9: Earthquake Rescue and Relief Coordination Committee of the CPN (UML) has asked the government to make public call for volunteering in reconstruction work. The committee has also urged own party leaders to take initiatives for making such call.

"By mobilizing thousands of volunteers for the reconstruction of houses, school buildings and agricultural works, the country can utilize youth energy. The mobilization of youths from Tarai-Madhes and unaffected area in the affected district could help to develop national unity and social harmony," stated the committee in the letter sent to party Chairman KP Oli and to the Deputy Prime Minister Bamdev Gautam. The committee has suggested that the registration of volunteers could be done through the district administration.

The committee has also argued that it witnessed many weaknesses in relief distribution and has suggested that there should not be interference by political parties in relief distribution. The committee has urged the government to make District Administration Offices, VDC Offices and Municipality Offices effective in relief distribution.

The committee has also drawn the attention of the government and party leaders towards the lack of tents and tarpaulins as well as relief and rehabilitation packages for the victims.

The committee has also urged to declare Lamjung and Solukhumbu districts also as highly affected district and distribute relief and reconstruction package accordingly.
